Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Surgery
As you age, your skin loses elasticity and the upper and/or lower areas of eyelids tend to droop. Puffy bags underneath your eyes or loose upper lids are indicators of old age and exhaustion, even if neither is true. They can even interfere with vision. Eyelid surgeries smooth out these areas for a refreshed look.
Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic or medical procedure which corrects drooping eyelids. The goal of this procedure is to correct affected eyelids, restore aesthetics above and below the eye, smooth eyelid muscles, support structures of the eye and remove excess fat from the eyelids.
The doctor uses a laser incision, which leaves less scarring, and tend to incur infections and heal faster. The incision is made along the natural folds of the eyelid, leaving no evidence of any incision. The doctor then cuts excess skin away and seals the area with stiches, which are removed in approximately ten days. You can expect bruising for about two weeks and some swelling.
People with more prominent eyeballs in relation to their cheek bones, those with dry eye syndrome, and burn patients may also benefit from this procedure. If you have narrow eyes, this procedure can also widen them. In these cases, this procedure is called an East Asian Blepharoplasty. Lastly, if you have had a dramatic weight change, this procedure helps balance your excess skin with the rest of your body, as exercise and healthy habits do not affect eyelids.
